ALternative Fuels Image

What alternative fuels could AAG be helping you with?

With oil prices increasing relentlessly running a vehicle is quickly becoming a luxury.

However, there are alternatives including:

Use of cleaner fuels.

The majority of fuels used in UK fleets are unleaded petrol – about 72% of fleet cars, and 30% of vans; and diesel – about 25% of fleet cars and 65% of vans. Cleaner fuels are now becoming more widely available, with many manufacturers producing vehicles that run on LPG, natural gas, biodiesel, battery electric, or petrol-electric hybrid power sources. TransportEnergy PowerShift grants are also available to offset some of the additional purchase cost of these vehicles.

Which choice of fuel will depend on a number of different factors and how important each of these is to your particular organisation. These include:

- Capital costs.
- Running costs (fuels,GradVED).
- Emissions of CO2.
- Emissions affecting air quality.
- Availability of fuel and refuelling infrastructure.
- Vehicle range.
- Re-fuelling time.
- Loss of boot / payload space.

Changing from conventional fuels takes careful consideration, but is a fundamental part of environmental best practice. Apart from cost factors, the levels of different emissions make some fuels more suitable for certain types of use, than others. For more details on these advantages consult the accompanying Cleaner Fuelled Vehicles guide.
